Breaking Cycles of Destructive Behaviors & Developing Healthy Habits
“If you always do what you’ve always done, you always get what you always got.” — Henry Ford

Do you ever feel like Apostle Paul and not really understand yourself? You want to do what is right, but don’t do it. Instead, you do what you hate. (Romans 7:15) We all struggle with repetitive, destructive behaviors -bad habits- at some point and try to stop but can’t seem to. The first step to change is to identify and acknowledge your bad habit, in other words “own it!”

Galatians 5:19-21 provides us with a list to begin the process… “Now the practices of the sinful nature are clearly evident: they are sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality (total irresponsibility, lack of self-control), idolatry, sorcery, hostility, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions (that promote heresies), envy, drunkenness, riotous behavior, and other things like these.” (AMP) If you’re not seeing yourself in the list above, try this… Are you abusing alcohol and/or drugs, over or under-eating, binge-ing and purging, controlling, a workaholic, a manipulator, a perfectionist, abusive, defensive, a procrastinator, lazy, excessively driven, prideful, lustful, rebellious, or greedy? Do you watch porn, withdraw/isolate, excessively talk, lie, over or under-spend or gossip?

Our human, instinctive self (our flesh) is primarily motivated by pain and pleasure. Most people will change something unhealthy when the pain drives them to it. Are you in enough pain to change? Are you caught in the “I do what I don’t want to do” syndrome? Is your life headed in a direction that you know won’t end well? Are you plagued by your choices and behaviors? Do you want to change and have tried but just can’t seem to?

In this class, we will identify and acknowledge bad habits and go through steps to develop healthy, Godly ones. Are you ready? Classes will run June 13th, 20th & 27th from 6:30-7:45 pm in the auditorium at Grace. Call 570-837-5809 to sign up.
